Television Show Summary

This 80's TV series featured the character of Trapper John from the TV show MASH as the Chief of Surgery at San Franscico Memorial Hospital. The show dealt with many different medical related stories of the time.

TV Show Plot For Trapper John, MD

The series finds Trapper John McIntyre 28 years after leaving his MASH unit in Korea. He struggles to come to grips with his role as a hospital administrator; the very thing he despised as a doctor in Korea.

Another main character on Trapper John, M.D. was G. Alonzo "Gonzo" Gates (Gregory Harrison), who previously served in a MASH unit in Vietnam. One day Gonzo walks into surgery to assist Trapper. Trapper John finds out that Gonzo is not a member of the staff, but he is so impressed he hires him immediately.

Other members on the hospital medical staff are Dr. Stanley Riverside, intern Justin "Jackpot" Jackson, nurses Clara "Starch" Willoughby, Gloria "Ripples" Brancusi and Ernestine Shoop. Later in the series Trapper John's son J.T., who works as an intern at the hospital.

The Trapper John, MD series ran 151 episodes from 1979 - 1986 on CBS Sunday nights at 10 PM.

Waiting anxiously for this show to FINALLY find a home on DVD!! So MANY other shows have been released and it is ridiculous that his show has not yet been released. Perhaps we should all start contacting 20th Century Fox about a very near future release for the fans who have been waiting so VERY long!

Trivia...

First, The DVD's are out. Whether they're legit or bogus remains to be seen, but I bought the series "The Bionic Woman" {original} and it has decent clarity of picture. Now, because this has driven me nuts since 1979, does any one know why Christopher Norris character, Nurse Gloria Brancusi, was nick named "Ripples"? Along that same line, I wonder why her folks named her Christopher...I'm lagging behind with some of the info out there, but my big find was that she grew up in a show business family and was the original "Ivory Snow" Baby. Go figure.

What is the holdup on the release of Trapper John M.D. From what I have read in the comments, it looks like there is a lot of money to be made by the release. Please put this project on the front burner.

Early Days before Trapper John MD aired

I still remember a family trip to NY City in the later part of the 70's and we all went to a pilot program in the studio's in NY City and they wanted the participants to press buttons we were holding in our hands to show if we liked something or not. If we liked something we pressed the green button, if we didn't then we pressed the red button, etc. We watched clips of the pilot show and responded by pushing those buttons they gave us to hold. I would love to talk with others that had the same experience. We didn't know at the time that we were truly in on the ground floor of this remarkable new program.

this is about as bad as star wars was for blu-ray only now it worse.

Poor Pernell Roberts never got to see his show get released on to dvd before he passed away. Maybe that's Fox's take on releasing this to DVD. Let everybody who was on this show pass away so they don't have to pay any royalties. Netflix only recenently got Magnum PI.
