TV Show Plot For Family Ties

In Family Ties Steven and Elyse Keaton play a couple of hippies with liberal views who were married in the 60's. To their surprise, their children did not adopt the same liberal values. In fact, their son alex was a staunch conservative who worshiped Ronald Reagan.

The children of Family ties, Alex, Mallory and Jennifer, had strikingly different personalities. Alex was the overachiever, who wore a shirt and tie and was a Young Republicans member. Mallory was the scatter-brained slacker who was more into shopping and guys. Jennifer was the precocious younger sister who just wanted to be the normal kid. During the 1984-1985 season, Elyse gave birth to Andrew, her and Steven's fourth child. Alex quickly influenced his younger brother, and he became an Alex clone.

Through the years the Family Ties kids had several love interests. After Alex graduated high school, he met his first serious girlfriend, Ellen Reed, while attending Leyland College. After that relationship broke up Alex met Alex met psychology major Lauren Miller. Mallory was in serious danger of failing out of high school when she met the slacker and high school-dropout Nick Moore.

At the end of the Family Ties series, Alex accepts his dream job offer on Wall Street in New York City.

Trivia for the TV Show Family Ties

Matthew Broderick was originally cast to play Alex P. Keaton, but he had to turn down the role to care for his terminally ill father.

Tom Hanks appeared on Family Ties as Elise Keaton's brother Ned.

The first few seasons the Keatons lived in Cleveland, Ohio. Then they suddenly lived in Columbus, Ohio with no explanation ever given.

song is driving me crazy

does anyone remember the song that was played when Alex got dumped by his girlfriend (soon to be wife in real life). I clearly remember the song playing, can hear it in my head but cannot put a name or artist to it. It ends with something like "when you had to tell me goodbye."

I think you are thinking of Billy Vera and the Beaters 1981 hit "At this moment"..the song was used in the 2 parter "the real thing" when Alex meets Ellen and he convinces her to not marry. It was supposidly used whe they break up, but I can;t remember that episode name :-(
