Why isn't the series, "Designing Women," in DVD format??!! This is my all-time favorite show, and all I have found is "The Best of ..." It wasn't enough. Is anybody out there? Does anybody care?

Where is our season one of Designing Women?
I wish they would release season one (and properly permote it) already. I haven't wanted to buy "The Best Of" becasue I feel it will be like a tease..leaving me despertely wanting more. However I will buy it to show support for a possible full season realease.

COME OUT ON DVD ALREADY!
I can't believe this show is not out yet. I would buy every season that Delta Burke was in!!! Nick At Night promoted it so much and then yanked it off the air. They also strated it at weird times so you couldn't record it!!! I agree with the lady that said the channel should be the fresh prince channel. I complained to my husband about this for forever....I was so glad to see other people feel the same way! We need Desgning Women back on and on DVD!:-[]

Designing Women Junky
I too, had many Designing Women shows taped on VHS. I wore them out some time ago. Can you say {With Draws}!!!!! >-( I have ordered, The Best of, in hopes that this will show my support to Sony. AAAAAAAAAhhhhhh, I just checked my mail, The Best of, Came today! I have to go now!
#9 - Brian - 06/28/2007 - 17:31
"I love knowledge, in fact I yearn for it."
I have most of their episodes on tape but bad quality and the lousy local station that aired it in the late 80s cut out the best lines (such as the line above) to make room for extra commercials. I would definitely buy the series on DVD. Heck, I'd buy the series on VHS.

"I think you're a little over the top on this Abbott banister thing."
#10 - Steven - 07/09/2007 - 22:00
"There's some black people coming to dinner!"
I have heard rumors that our beloved show will be releasing on DVD sometime before the summer ends! How exciting!! I have watched this show since it first came out, and I don't go a day without watching it. For those who are bummed about it not airing on Lifetime anymore, it does air Monday - Thursday on the ION network.

ONE of my very favorite lines....
"You know, I'm sorry but I don't think we like your tone of voice. Who do you think you're talking to? For your information, we are the Sugarbaker sisters of Atlanta. We had people living here long before it burned. Our great great grandfather was Robert E. Lee's roomate in college, our other grandfather helped write the Georgia constitution. I myself have stood in the rose garden with Jimmy Carter. So even if we do, on this particular day, happen to have our head temporarily stuck in a fence, we are not going to take any crap off some two-bit, low level, bureaucratic usherette!"
#11 - Ashlee - 08/02/2007 - 20:18
Best e-mail to let Sony know how we feel?
Does anyone know what the best e-mail address is to let Sony know how we feel? Maybe we should boycott Sony until we get our Designing Women DVD's!
#12 - dixkid@aol.com - 08/12/2007 - 00:05
Evey other show is on DVD. I can't understand why we can't get Designing Women on DVD. Hurry up---enough is enough!!!
#13 - Terri - 08/15/2007 - 19:46
Please Please Please Come on now !!!
I have been waiting for Designing Women to come out on video since the first tv show came out on video. Designing Women is still one of my favorite tv shows of all time. Please stop what ever is holding up the process and get the show to video. If it is money, whoever the powers that be must know that when the video comes out it will sell faster and more than any other video. Oh! maybe that is the hold up.
#14 - Melanie - 08/22/2007 - 18:21
I'm dying for the seasons of Designing Women!!!
I've been a devoted watcher of Designing Women for many years and I have been waiting forever for them to come out on DVD. Every other older sitcom has come out, I don't think that it is fair that Desiging Women is having such a hold up. Please people make it happen!!>-(
#15 - Melissa - 09/03/2007 - 20:22
Designing Women
I have been looking for a complete set of the series Designing Women, but cannot find it. Is there no DVD series of this wonderfully delightful program. It is a clean, funny and uplifting entertainment that elevated the genre of sitcoms.

Desiging Women was the best sitcom of its generation. I understand there is trouble with the distribution rights, but if you would get your act together, someone could make a lot of money and all the fans would be very greatful. Please try to rectify this problem and let us enjoy this much loved series.
#18 - Julie - 10/25/2007 - 23:06

Realizing the effect of "Designing Women" on my outlook toward life
Dear "Oh, My God Make the Entire Run of 'Designing Women' Released on DVD":

"Designing Women" premiered when I was in 9th grade, and it was the first time there was a character on television with my name: Suzanne. Imagine my dismay when I discovered how selfish she could be. However, when I was in college during the long nights of working and studying, I was fortunate enough to catch all the reruns of all the episodes--and learn the depths of all the characters, Suzanne included. Hell, I still have some of Julia's monologues memorized, one of which I recited in 1993 to a "best friend" who was being all upity about homosexuality...

My point being, "Designing Women", like it or not, made a profound influence on how I viewed my life. 15 years of my life have gone by with more life experiences than most people face in a lifetime. I'm in the midst of trying to rediscover who I am apart from the gut-sucking relationships (not just romantic, but friendship, professional....) that I chose to participate in, and it has finally come to me that I need to differentiate between what is "ME" and what is the garbage I picked up from trying to be whatever I thought was necessary to preserve whatever relationship. I know I'm getting all, "Zen" and stuff, but "Designing Women" made a huge impact on how I viewed the world and how I wasn't going to put up with injustice. I guess it's kind of ironic; I'm typing this after Midnight (although being the OCD person that I am, I won't send it until the morning so I can proof-read it one more time...), because I'm currently not working at my former job because I stood up for my rights, for the rights and ideals I tried to teach my students, and if I betrayed that concept, I would have betrayed everything I wanted my kiddos to learn.

Good Grief! Can you tell I'm an English teacner? I can't shut up! (I know, end the sentence with a prep.... blah)

My point is that I would like to thank the producers of "DW", the cast members of "DW" (even Rusty with his pants hanging below the equator...), the courageous producers for presenting a television program that was so progressive and so in front of its time... I think all young women would benefit from having access to all of the episodes of "Designing Women". As for myself, as I strip away the different qualities that I feel I have acquired simply for the desire or benefit of others, my few encounters with reruns of "DW" help me to reaffirm that I'm headed in the right direction. I sure would like to have a DVD to shove in to help remind me that I am worth something and I don't have to endure other people's issues on my shoulders!

OK, getting off the soap box now.
Thank you for listening to, (reading) my rant. Color me passionate....

Sincerely,
Suzanne

Are they really coming out soon? Do they have an exact date? I doubt it is possible but before Christmas would be GREAT!

Designing Women
I cannot believe the rest of the drek being released and NOT this show. I too wore out my VHS tapes.

There are two other "failed" series that I will also like to see whatever was filmed. One was the "Mary" (Mary Tyler Moore) 1985 CBS series. I would also love to see "Filthy Rich" which starred both Dixie Carter and Delta Burke.

Please can someone get moving on making these shows available? I'm sure there's more than enough interest.

I have been searching for all the seasons for "Designing Women" and have come up empty handed. Who do we need to contact to get these put on DVD??? This was one of the best shows to ever be aired on TV!
#26 - L. Parker - 12/18/2007 - 11:39
Ridiculas!
I too find it ridiculas that every thing is out on dvd now EXCEPT award winning Designing Women. This infuriates me! I would gladly write to them and tell them how much of a market there is for Designing Women dvds and how their crappy attempt at releasing a "best of" is no indication of their actual fan base. I didn't buy that dvd but id def by the seasons. If that was their test market, it failed. Come on Sony, get with the program!

>-( I'VE READ ALL THE COMMENTS ABOUT NOT HAVING THE DESIGINING WOMEN TV SHOWS ON DVD YET AND ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS "DITTO". I AT LEAST HAVE THEM ALL TAPED ON VHS BUT THE QUALITY IS HORRIBLE. #28 - PamelaDee - 12/30/2007 - 11:21
GET'ER DONE!
Please do something about releaseing this Fine show on DVD. Nick at night sucks, now. At least run DW more often on Nick, TV Land or Lifetime in the meantime. Thanks
#29 - R D Hulsey - 01/18/2008 - 06:41
Put it back on Lifetime or release the DVD.
Who do I need to talk to, to get this show on DVD. I love this show so much and I can't understand why it never sticks to a network. It used to come on Lifetime, they took it off...It was on Nick at night, they took it off...It used to come on TV land 2 episodes at a time, now they have reduced it to one and it comes on at like 3:30AM. I love this show so much, I must admit though I stopped watching after a few episodes of Delta Burke leaving, it just wasn't the same. The cast kept changing, and the story lines just got a little off. Still love the show though and out of the 8 years it was on I watched faithfully up until about the last 2 (I think)

#32 - Allie - 01/27/2008 - 11:38
Does anyone have any more info on this?
I've read all of your comments and couldn't agree more. I used to watch this show as a little girl with my grandmother. I can still catch it on TV Land once in a while, but would love to own the entire seasons. Does anyone have any more information on when (if) it will be released?
#33 - Kimberly - 02/04/2008 - 23:07
Designing women fan, Author, all around nice guy
I am probably in the minority of rabid viewers of D/W. I am male. Most I'm sure are female. I too adore the series. Have but one thing to say. PIRATE the damn series on the NET or whatever needs to happen, Maybe sony will get off thier collective. &*&)(*&)'s and do something then. I think it's truly sad when gilligan's island has a dvd and this history changing series is ignored. Women were then and continued to be empowered by it. MEN learned that women weren't simply cartoon characters to be relegated to the kitchen. We all learned that the south is a pretty damn fine place to live and you aren't necessarily an idiot if you happen to have been, born and educated in the south. I'll end MY tirade also. If anyone want's to trade episodes... I'd love to start the cycle. jockboydave@yahoo.com
Tell sony to GET IT DONE NOW!

It Is Taking Too Long For Designing Woment To Get On DVD. I Am So Tired Of These Large Companies Being So Tight With Their Money And Not Willing To Work Out The Copyright Issues.. They Have So Much Money And Are Still Laggn'.. There Are Other Newer Shows That Are On DVD Now That Should Not Be... I Love This Show And Need My Copies.. I Am Running Out Of Space On My DVR. I Have To DVR The Episodes So I Can Get As Much Of Them As I Can.. They Are So Funny... Come On People.. Get This Done Already...:-[]

Designing Women need to be designed on DVD!
This sitcome would make bank roll after bank roll if released, so let the negotiations get ironed out and SOON! I'm sure their would be enough to go around! We have waithed long enough just needs to be
#37 - JuJU - 03/10/2008 - 19:00
Hurry Up!!!
Designing Women need to be released on DVD because everyone knows that this is the best sitcom of all time. You don't find quality television like that anymore, which is very sad. I agree with everyone when they say they would buy every season at once if they would just release it, I am no different. It just makes me mad to no end knowing that sitcoms that haven't been on for very long are already coming out with season 1, when all they have is season 1!! So to whoever is in charge of releasing the DVD's, get off your lazy butt and do something about it, you've got too much money to lose if you don't!!!
#38 - Emily - 03/23/2008 - 21:53
DW not on DVD yet???? this is the real nightmare from Hee Haw
This show was and still is one of the best tv series ever. With humor, intelligent dialog, snappy quips and a group of women who helped define the changes going on in the workplace. I didn't start watching the show until it ran on Lifetime a few years back. I began to tape it on my dvr, and I still have 98 episodes which I will not delete. While I'm typing I'm seeing that the show has historical value as well. When I teach history and communications, in order to show some of the instances of white people putting black on their faces back in the 1930's, I need go no farther than to wait for the 4th Supreme, (or a California Raisen ). Yes, this series, what a Class Act. Well girls, we've got to Have Faith when the Fur Flies or when the High Rollers are arguing over the song Gorgia. We must have Great Expectations, because we know these guys in the grip Of Human Bondage really are just Half a Bubble Off. When our Designing Women are on DVD format, and we are holding our purchase in hand we would hope that these execs carry just a little extra baggage, because we, collectivley are sending them to: LA PLACE SANS SUCKEY for a very long time. Sugerbakers Design Firm
You know I speak my mind, it's a real shame so many people would revitalize a classic like Designing Women.

Give the fan's what they want, clear the music red tape, it's been way too long.

This is unexceptable. Julia Sugerbaker

Designing Women is the only series I really love and can't wait to watch.
Will you do everyone a favor and put it back on Lifetime or any channel as soon as possible?
#59 - Monica - 12/22/2008 - 17:26
Designing Women DVDs at All 7 Seasons on TVDVDStorenet?
I was interested in the dvd's that Scott mentioned, wondered how they could be available if Sony hadn't released them, and found the quote below from the FAQ site. (I,too, am VERY concerned about the quality, but am oh so tempted to buy them because I love DW so much and can only watch so many clips on youtube!! ;-)

Some of these DVD's haven't even been released yet. How is it possible that you sell them?
There is a section of the American copyright law known as "The Berne Act" that Clearly states: films unreleased in the United States, including original versions of films altered and/or edited for release in the United States, are NOT protected by American copyright; thus, they are considered public domain. The entire purpose of our website is to provide otherwise unavailable films or television shows to the serious collector.
#60 - Gumbo - 12/24/2008 - 21:40
the DVDs on TVDVDSTORE
DO NOT BUT THE DVD COLLECTION, IF YOU ARE A FAN LIKE ME YOU ARE TEMPTED BUT DON'T DO IT. THAT COMPANY BY ANY OF ITS NAMES SUCKS, THE DVDS ARE POOR QUALITY AND THEY DONT EVEN LIST AN ADDRESS OR PHONE NUMBER TO CONTACT TO SEND YOUR BAD DVDS BACK. DON'T BUY FROM THEM OR ANY OF THEIR OTHER DOMAINS. JUST WAIT FOR THE BEST
#61 - Cynthia - 01/06/2009 - 20:15
Why there are no dvd's yet.
It is my understanding that the reason they have not relased designing women yet is because of a lot of copywrite issues. The show has a lot of copywriten music in it and they can't release it unless they pay for every song in it. I hope they resolve this issue, my wife is a huge fan and it just stinks we can't get it on dvd.
#62 - Bill - 01/14/2009 - 11:04
"Just Say No"
Don't buy from any of the sites claiming to have good quality dvd's of the designing women shows....they are terrible quality, I bought them and fought for weeks to get my money returned to my credit card...there is no phone # to call and the company is in China...don't buy from any of the domains claiming to have "great quality"...they won't be great quality until they're the originals
#63 - Russ - 01/29/2009 - 22:41
"Excuse me! Excuse me!!"
In the name of all that is holy!! I beg of you, please release the Designing Women dvd sets!!

To the other fans: Thanks to all who warned about buying the dvd sets from those crap places. I admit I was sorely tempted.

Is Designing Women ever coming out on DVD...all seven seasons. It is the greatest show to ever be on TV!!!!!!!!!! Surely it will be put on DVD????????

Don't be fooled
Being a native Georgian makes me love this show even more. But please be aware of these online stores that say they are selling the complete series. I ordered one from a company in China and the quality of these dvd's is terrible. Most of them episodes were recorded from TV Land with the commericals. When I tried to return them I never could get anyone from this compnay to provided me with a return address.

Official DVDs have been released
Lots of comments here complaining about no dvd release for the series. They put out the first season in mid-2009 and season 4 was the last released in late 2010. I think the show lasted 7 seasons, and the last two were pretty rocky. Especially the horrible final season. I think they'll release season 5, but I wouldn't count on the last two.
