This 80's TV was based on the 1983 movie by the same name. The show features the LAPD Blue Thunder unit, which operated a high tech helicopter.

TV Show Plot For Blue Thunder

Following the success of the 1983 film version of Blue Thunder, this series was released on ABC in 1984.

James Farrentino starred as Blue Thunder helicopter pilot Lieutenant Frank Chaney. His co-pilot 'JAFO' onderlove was played by a young future Saturday Night Live star Dana Carvey. The TV series also starred former NFL players Bubba Smith and Dick Butkus.

Only 11 episodes of this ill-fated spin-off were aired on ABC in 1984 before it was cancelled. The success of another helicopter action series Airwolf on CBS was part of the reason for the failure of this show.

Despite it's single season run, the show was released on DVD by Sony Pictures on August 22, 2006.

Action Packed Show
The Blue Thunder series contained some terrific helicopter action sequences. The special effects are cheesy 80's at their best, but still exiting to watch. It's surprising that this short-lived series is available on DVD, when so many other great shows are not.

help
this is making me go nutts my boyfriend was telling me about how he was looking for the answer because he wanted to know so i got on-line and started lookin and i cant find the answer i've looked on so many websites and they all talk about the helicopter and none say anything about the ground support vehicle "rolling thunder" except for a couple sites but those sites didn't tell me what i wanted to know they just told me it was a desert off-road vehicle but does anyone know what's the make and model of the DESERT CAMOUFLAGE OFF-ROAD VEHICLE that was inside "ROLLING THUNDER" (THE LARGE "GROUND SUPPORT" VAN) from the 80'S TV SHOW "BLUE THUNDER"? e-mail me if you have the answer put blue thunder in the subject box please swantongurl1983@yahoo.com
