The 80's TV show Alice was based on the 1975 movie Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore starring Ellen Burstyn. It is the story of Alice and her son Tommy who move from New Jersey to Hollywood.

TV Show Plot For Alice

The television series Alice starred Linda Lavin as Alice Hyatt. After her husband Donald is killed in a truck accident, Alice and her 12-year-old son, Tommy, move from New Jersey to Hollywood, California.

Alice's dream was to become a singer in Hollywood. However, her car breaks down in Arizona on the way to California. Alice is forced to take a job in Mel's Diner.

Other characters in the show included: Mel, the demanding and rough owner of the diner; Flo, the sex starved southern accented waitress; and Vera, the shy and quiet coworker. The character Belle, then later Jolene joined the cast in 1980 after Flo was given her own spin off TV series Flo.

The series Alice's 202 episode, nine season run ended in 1985. Mel sold the diner, Alice became a singer in Nashville, Vera was married and pregnant and Jolene was opening her own beauty shop.

In 2006, six episodes of Alice were released on DVD as part of a Warner Brothers' Compilation DVD.

Whatever became of Doug Mckeon?
I loved this show. I obviously lost its punch when flo left the show. This is a show that should be out on dvd, atleast the first few seasons.

I agree with the last comment I eally enjoyed this sitcom tv land should air it with andy griffith that is always on air. I do like this program as well.

i wish they would release all of these on dvd and vhs
i will buy them all
Alice was my favorite
they make alot of junk now on tv
Alice was a great show, with good humor, clean,
fun and familys are able to watch it together
and there was always a message you took away with you from each episode,
you learned a lesson

I find it sad that in a society where we have progressed we have regressed with these dumb tv reality shows and shows that have no
substance at all. I am looking to purchase the Alice dvd's or video's
