TV Show Plot For 60 Minutes

The 60 Minutes TV show is one of the most successful television series of all time, having finished #1 in the Neilson ratings five times. However, the show has also been called into question on several controversial stories.

In 1982 60 Minutes ran the story "The Uncounted Enemy, a Vietnam Deception". In the story Mike Wallace reported that Westmoreland withheld information on the Vietnam War from policy-makers in Washington. Westmoreland called the report a 'preposterous hoax,' and sued CBS for libel. TV Guide later issued a report called 'Anatomy of a Smear,' which uncovered problems with the 60 Minutes story, documenting that they ignored contrary evidence, and edited video to change the questions Westmoreland is asked. CBS settled the Westmoreland case by issuing a retraction and an apology.

In 1986 60 Minutes ran a story about the German made Audi 5000 car. The story reported on several incidents where people were killed when the Audi accelerated unexpectedly while parked. 60 Minutes, unable to make their test car do this, hired an outside consultant to modify the car's transmission to duplicate the problems.

Audi sales plummeted in the US as a result of the 60 Minutes piece. Later, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Transport Canada ruled that the accidents were attributable to operator error, when car owners pressed the accelerator instead of the brake pedal. CBS issued a partial retraction, without acknowledging the test results of the two government agencies.

As a teenager, I remember seeing the documentary on the surfer smugglers, which must have been broadcasted in 1985/6. If someone has the clip, I would love to see it again. If anybody knows how, please let me know.

Gelsey Kirkland--Nov. 16, 1986
Am looking for the interview with Gelsey Kirkland, November 16, 1986. I know they have the following excerpt in the new york public library...but I am in Hawaii!

[Gelsey Kirkland: Dancing on my grave] 1986. 15 min. : sd. color
Excerpt from the series, 60 minutes, telecast by CBS-TV on November 16, 1986. Producer: Jan Legnitto.
SUMMARY: Interviewed by Diane Sawyer, dancer Gelsey Kirkland discusses her recently published autobiography, Dancing on my grave, and the physical and psychological problems which led to her addiction to cocaine. She talks about the influences of George Balanchine and Mikhail Baryshnikov, and notes how the film The turning point reflected her own experience. Her husband Greg Lawrence offers a brief commentary. Brief excerpts depict Kirkland in rehearsals and performances of Balanchine's Tchaikovsky pas de deux (partnered by Patrick Bissell) and Theme and variations, Don Quixote (partnered by Baryshnikov), Giselle (with Bissell), and The sleeping beauty (with an unidentified partner from the Royal Ballet). Baryshnikov and Leslie Browne are also seen in the pas de deux from MacMillan's Romeo and Juliet, filmed for The turning point.

Please contact me if you have!

Three Amazing Men - 1991?
I am looking for (hopefully) a video of a show done in, I believe, 1991. It was on Dr. Thoralf Sundt, neurosurgeon at Mayo clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He operated on former President Reagan in 1989, and saved my life after a brain bleed in 1982. Please let me know if a video or DVD is available, as he died a year after his interview. Thank you.
