Plot

In the movie Taps, Cadet Major Brian Moreland leads his fellow cadets in seizing the Bunker Hill Military Academy that has been threatened with being torn down and replaced by condos.

A tragic accident caused by locals that oppose the existence of the academy started a violence spiral that reached dramatic proportions when the cadets seize the Academy and the National Guard has to be called to confront the rebellious cadets. Taps is a movie about honor, friendship and the dangerous situation that misguided military leaders can create, no matter their age.

Trivia

Tom Cruise was originally going to play a background character on the film Taps, but director Harold Becker was so impressed by his performance as one of the cadets during rehearsals that offered him the role of David Shawn. At first Cruise refused, but was convinced by Becker and producer Stanley R. Jaffe.

The movie Taps was Sean Pennís film debut. He was discovered by casting director Shirley Rich while she watched a Broadway play where Penn acted.
