Summary

Back in 1959, a group of 4 boys living on a small town decide to embark on and adventurous trip to find the dead body of a kid that was hit by a train nearby. They learn much about life during the trip. The whole story is a flashback and is narrated from the perspective of one of the kids, Gordie Lachance, now a writer.

Plot

The movie Stand by Me tells the story of Gordie Lachance, a now mature writer who looks back on this preteen days when he and three of his closest friends went on an adventure to find the body of a kid their age who had gone missing and was presumed dead. The trip gets severely complicated when a gang of older, meaner boys embark on a similar trip and decide to make things really difficult for the main characters.

Based on a short story written by master of suspense Stephen King, Stand by Me is now a classical 80´s coming-of-age movie that deals with such important things as friendship, growing up and the complicated concept of life and death.

Stand By Me movie character Mr. Quidacioluo is played by Bruce Kirby, whose real last name is, in fact, Quidacioluo.

At the insistence of director Rob Reiner (an avid non-smoker involved in several anti-smoking campaigns in California) the cigarettes smoked by the boys during some scenes in the film Stand by Me were made of dried cabbage leaves.
