Summary

Enemy Mine is an 80´s movie depicting the story of two starfighter pilots –a human and a Drac (a reptilian humanoid creature)- that end up crashing on a deserted habitable planet and have forget their differences and team up in order to survive in such harsh environment.

Although sworn enemies due to the war they are both part of as the soldiers they are, they eventually discover not only that they share much in common but that they may become real friends.

Plot

The movie Enemy Mine focus on a repeating event along the history of mankind. All that we see different to us scares us and thus, we hate it. The movie shows how two sworn enemies –enemies for no other reason that they have been taught to be enemies- become allies due to necessity and then friends because they choose to. It even shows a very noble concept, the fact that friendship and loyalty can be maintained even before death and transmitted from father to son.

Enemy Mine is a great Science Fiction movie that focus on a very important social message, tolerance: the importance of understanding other’s ways and beliefs.

Trivia

Louis Gosett Jr., the actor that interpreted Jeriba on the movie Enemy Mine said in a TV interview that he used to talk while gargling saliva as a kid just for fun. He told the director that he thought such a thing may add a good touch to the character, and it did.

During the opening battle scene in the film Enemy Mine, the computer screen inside the Drac ship is displaying the structure of a protein.
