Summary

This 80's movie comedy features Thorton Mellon, a self-made millionaire (Rodney Dangerfield), decides to join his only son Jason away at college, and quickly becomes the most popular man on campus.

Plot

The plot of 1986's Back to school revolves around a wealthy but uneducated father (Dangerfield) who goes to college to show support for his troubled son and learns that all his money can not buy a college education.

Author Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. has a cameo as himself.

The University of Wisconsin was used as a backdrop for the "Grand Lakes University" campus scenes.

Trivia

Danny Elfman of the 80's band Oingo Boingo created the music score for Back To School. The band also appeared in the film, performing their song "Dead Man's Party" at Thornton Melon's dorm party.

Jim Carrey was originally slotted to play Rodney's history professor, but it was decided he was too young for the role.

Footage in the opening to the movie of Rodney Dangerfield golfing was taken from his performance in the movie Caddy Shack in 1980.
