Plot

Richard Gere stars as Julian Kaye, a male prostitute in Los Angeles, California. He falls in love with Michelle Stratton (Lauren Hutton), the restless wife of a politician. Julian gets framed for a murder as Michelle falls in love with him.

"Call Me" by Blondie is the song for the popular American Gigolo soundtrack. The music was composed by Giorgio Moroder.

The movie was famous because it was the first time a major Hollywood actor (Richard Gere) was seen frontally nude in a movie.

As with the film Officer And A Gentleman, John Travolta had been offered the lead role, but he dropped out and it was taken by Richard Gere.

Christopher Reeve was also offered the movie's lead role, but turned it down because he objected to the subject matter.
