Summary

This 80's movie is one of the most controversial films of the decade. An ignorant nun gives birth to a child, who eventually dies. But, things are not as innocent as they may seem.

Plot

Agnes of God begins when a dead child is found in the wastebasket of a novice nun. Due to the seriousness of the case, psychiatrist Martha Livingston, interpreted by Jane Fonda, is brought in to determine what happened.

Things get even more complicated in Agnes of God. The police also want to determine the death-cause of the baby. Soon, the psychiatrist will find that her real problems will not come from the long arm of justice, but from her own organization and the people who hired her.

Trivia

The movie version of Agnes of God is based on a Broadway play. In the play, Geraldine Page was the actress who played the role of mother superior. But, in the film version, she was dismissed in favor of Anne Bancroft. During the Academy Awards, Bancroft lost to Page, who received the Oscar for her work in The Trip to Bountiful.

Agnes of God is based on true events. The difference is that the original nun had a high level of education.
