USA For AfricaLyrics We Are The World

“We Are the World” earned a significant amount of money, all of which went to the USA for Africa Foundation. This foundation was built to provide relief for famine and disease in Africa. Some critics, however, maintain that the money earned from “We Are the World” actually went to the often corrupt governments of African nations, rather than the people who needed it.

In the year 2004, a live recording of the performance was released on DVD alongside the Live Aid performance.

Some of the performers comprising USA for Africa include Harry Belafonte, Lindsey Buckingham, Kim Carnes, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Sheila E., Daryl Hall, John Oates, James Ingram, Jermaine Jackson, Jackie Jackson, LaToya Jackson, Marlon Jackson, Michael Jackson, Randy Jackson, Tito Jackson, Al Jarreau, Waylon Jennings, Billy Joel, Cyndi Lauper, Huey Lewis, Kenny Loggins, Bette Midler, Willie Nelson, Jeffrey Osborne, Steve Perry, the Pointer Sisters, Kenny Rogers, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, Smokey Robinson, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, Dionne Warwick, and Stevie Wonder. In addition to these well known American performers, one Canadian - Dan Aykroyd – joined the ranks, as did Irishman Bob Geldof.
