Born Thomas Earl Petty on the 20th of October 1950, Tom Petty is a popular ‘80s artist known for his classical style of rock and roll. In addition, Petty is also a prolific songwriter, having penned the hits “American girl,” “Mary Jane’s Last Dance,” “Free Fallin,’” and “Into the Great Wide Open.” His songs remain staples of mainstream radio in the United States. Even though he is enormously successful, Petty remains a vocal critic of the music industry.

For most of his career, Tom Petty was supported by a back up band called the Heartbreakers. He has also released solo albums on occasion, for which he plays the majority of the instruments. The Heartbreakers have also appeared on his “solo” albums, however, and they always support Petty whenever he goes out on tour.

Perry has had the same manager, Mr. Tony Dimitriades, for over thirty years. In the year 2001, Petty married his long time partner Dana Young. His first marriage was to high school sweetheart Jane Benyo. Petty also speaks some Cantonese.
