Til Tuesday Artist Bio and Lyrics

The ‘80s new wave band Til Tuesday was formed early in the decade in Boston. The band’s original line up consisted of Aimee Mann on bass and vocals, Michael Hausman on drums, Joey Pesce on keyboards, and Robert Holmes on guitars and vocals. The band achieved their first success six months after their formation, when it won the WBCN Rock and Roll Rumble in Boston. Their song “Love in a Vacuum” received heavy airplay on the radio station. Til Tuesday was eventually signed to the Epic Records label. “Love in a Vacuum” was re-recorded for their debut album, Voices Carry. But it was the album’s title track that proved to be the band’s breakthrough song.

Lyrics Voices Carry

“Voices Carry” made it to Number Eight on the Billboard charts in the United States. The song is said to be a result of an argument between Mann and Hausman, who had previously been involved but broke up right before the album came out. The record label was unhappy with the fact that the song was written and performed by Mann as though she were singing to another woman.

Despite this fact, “Voices Carry” became a staple on the early days of MTV. The video for the song would win Til Tuesday an MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist. After the release of their 1988 album Everything’s Different Now, Til Tuesday disbanded.

Voices Carry is not just a song from a woman to another women, it's such a beautiful song. It's for anyone who has ever been in a bad relationship, or who has been in love and not corresponded, so I guess it covers all of us!

My and my friends dreamed about making a Spanish cover version back in my teen-dream stage in Puerto Rico when we all wanted to be rock stars and adored by all the wild girls!
