The Steve Miller Band Artist Bio and LyricsThe ‘80s blues rock artist Steve Miller was born on the 5th of October 1943 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Miller’s father was Dr. George “Sonny” Miller, a pathologist and music enthusiast. His mother, Bertha, was a jazz singer. The family relocated to Dallas, Texas in the year 1950. Les Paul, the guitar pioneer, gave young Miller his first lessons on the instrument.
As a student of the St. Mark’s School of Texas, Miller founded the band the Marksmen. Miller taught his friend Boz Scaggs how to play the guitar so that he could join the group. Miller would later attend the University of Wisconsin at Madison where he would start a new band called the Ardells. Miller dropped out of college just before finishing his degree in literature. In the year 1968, he formed the Steve Miller Band. Their first album was in the style of the psychedelic blues that had become popular in the San Francisco Bay Area. After a couple of albums, Scaggs, who had followed Miller up to that point, would quit the group.
