The Power Station Artist Bio and LyricsThe ‘80s band the Power Station was comprised of Robert Palmer, John and Andy Taylor of Duran Duran, and Tony Thompson, formerly of CHIC. Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers, two former CHIC members, were also involved with the band. The Power Station was formed in New York City after Duran Duran decided to go on hiatus. The band took their name from the recording studio, where their first album was recorded.
Upon the release of Duran Duran’s third album, Seven and the Ragged Tiger, its members split up in to two different projects. One was Arcadia, the other the Power Station. Roger Taylor played drums for the former, but also contributed percussion tracks to the Power Station. In early 1985, the Power Station made an appearance on Saturday Night Live, performing “Bang a Gong” and “Some Like it Hot.” This would be Robert Palmer’s only live appearance with the Power Station. In the year 1985, the Power Station broke up. They would reunite ten years later with all the original members, including Palmer. However, John Taylor had to withdraw from the band before the recording of the album was complete, owing to a drug problem and a divorce battle. Bernard Edwards, formerly of CHIC, stepped in and took Taylor’s place, although he suddenly died before the band was able to go on tour. The albums of the Power Station include The Power Station, Living in Fear, The Best of, and 2005’s The Power Station: 20th Anniversary Edition. |
