The Police Artist Bio and LyricsThe three piece ‘80s band the Police are strongly influenced by the sound of reggae. They first rose to prominence shortly after the outbreak of punk in the late 1970s. Throughout the following decade, the Police would become one of the world’s most popular rock groups. In recent years, the Police have reunited to play gigs at the Grammy Awards. They will be playing at the Live Earth concert in July 2007, and plan to tour for much of the year.
American born drummer Stewart Copeland started the Police in the year 1977 after the demise of his prog rock group Curved Air. Copeland intended his new band to be a part of the burgeoning punk scene in London at the time. Copeland was joined by bassist and vocalist Sting, as well as Henry Padovani on guitars. The trio put out their first single, “Fall Out,” in early 1977. Recording expenses were paid for by the band’s acting manager, Paul Mulligan. Throughout the following months, the Police scored opening slots for such bands as Wayne County & the Electric Chairs and Cherry Vanilla. The Police are perhaps best known for their hit single “Every Breath You Take.” The albums of the Police include Outlandos d’Amour, Reggatta de Blanc, Zenyatta Mondatta, Ghost in the Machine, Synchronicity, Live!, Brimstone & Treacle, Strontium 90: Police Academy, Every Breath You Take: The Singles, Greatest Hits, Message in a Box: The Complete Recordings, Every Breath You Take: The Classics, and The Very Best of Sting & the Police. |
