The ‘80s country band the Oak Ridge Boys have been around since the year 1945. They were originally called the Oak Ridge Quartet. In the 1950s, they first rose to popularity. In the early 1960s, they decided to change their name to the Oak Ridge Boys. They played primarily gospel music until the 1970s, when they changed their image and style, focusing more on pop and country music. The most well known line up of the Oak Ridge Boys consisted of Duane Allen, Richard Sterban, Joe Bonsall, and William Lee Golden.

The ‘80s were a momentous decade for the group. 1981 saw the release of Fancy Free, the Oak Ridge Boys’ sixth album. It contained the well known song “Elvira,” which was written by Dallas Frazier. While the song had been recorded by numerous artists before, the Oak Ridge Boys were the first to turn it into a hit.

The following year, the band’s seventh album, Bobbie Sue, was released. Its title song was another major hit for the Oak Ridge Boys.
