Poison Artist Bio and Lyrics
Hailing from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, Poison was formed. Briefly after forming, they would embark on a musical pilgrimage to Los Angeles to enter the house of their Glam Metal inspiration. In 1984, Brett Michaels, Bobby Dall, Matt Smith and Rikki Rocket would compose the band know as Paris. Inspired by Metal-Mocking movie, “This is Spinal Tap,” the band changed their name to Poison. Matt Smith had to leave the band and they decided to draft C.C. DeVille as his replacement.
Poison quickly gathered momentum on the Sunset Strip club scene. Their cheap, flashy effects mimicked those of the band Kix. In 1986 the band would sign themselves to Enigma Records. It was here that they released their debut, Look What the Cat Dragged In. It would sell 2 million copies and also draw up tensions with the bands manager. Upon release of their second album, Poison found their major hits. “Every Rose Has its Thorns,” and “Nothin’ But a Good Time,” would ultimately become the bands most known singles. The songs appeared on the album, “Open Up and Say…AHH!” which was released in 1988. Their third album, Flesh & Blood (1990) would also yield many hits. It featured “Ride the Wind,” and “Unskinny Bop,” as well as “Something to Believe In.” Following their third album, Poison would go on a world tour. After coming off the road however, DeVille’ drug addictions would cause tensions. After a violent argument with Michaels, he would be replaced with Richie Kotzen. The band would continue releasing moderately successful albums throughout the nineties, and would open for KISS on the Rock the Nation tour in 2004. |
