It was in the year 1981 when Journey’s star began to rise. That was the year their seventh studio album, Escape, was released. It would make it to the top position on the album charts in the United States. It is widely considered to be the band’s most important album. It contained the hit songs “Who’s Crying Now,” “Open Arms,” and “Don’t Stop Believin’.” The band was made famous by Steve Perry’s husky tenor voice, which was soon to be widely imitated on rock and roll radio stations throughout the United States.

“Don’t Stop Believin’” in particular showed how well Perry’s soaring voice could merge with the band’s intricate guitar and piano work. “Open Arms” helped establish Perry as the leading voice of the arena rock movement of the 1980s.

The albums of Journey include Journey, Look Into the Future, Next, Infinity, Evolution, In the Beginning, Departure, Dream After Dream, Captured, Escape, Tron, Frontiers, Two of a Kind, Risky Business, Vision Quest, Raised on Radio, Greatest Hits, The Ballade, Time, Trial by Fire, Greatest Hits Live, Armageddon, Arrival, The Essential Journey, The Journey Continues, Red 13, Open Arms, Generations, and Live in Houston 1981: The Escape Tour.
