Miami Sound Machine was an ‘80s Latin American music band featuring Gloria Estefan. Estefan joined the group when her future husband, Emilio Estefan, Jr., asked her to sing with the band onstage at a large Cuban wedding. She was well received by the crowd, and a few weeks later, became a full time member of the band. In their early years, Miami Sound Machine sang exclusively in Spanish.

After a winning a massive fan base, the Miami Sound Machine released their first record in the year 1977. It was the first Spanish language album released by the CBS International label.

“Dr. Beat” was the Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine’s first English language hit song. It made it to the top of the dance charts in Europe and also did well in the United Kingdom and Australia. But it was not until the release of their 1986 album, Primitive Love, which featured the song “Conga,” that Miami Sound Machine was able to break in to the American market. Other popular songs on that album include “Words Get in the Way” and “Bad Boy.”

In the year 1988, Miami Sound Machine released the album Let it Loose. That album sold over six million copies in the United States alone and featured such well known tracks as “Anything For You,” “1, 2, 3,” “Betcha Say That,” “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You,” and “Can’t Stay Away From You.”

The albums of Miami Sound Machine include Live Again, Miami Sound Machine, Imported, MSM, Otra Vez, Rio, A Toda Máquina, Eyes of Innocence, Primitive Love, and Let It Loose.
