Donna Summer was born in Boston, Massachusetts on December 31, 1948. She has often been referred to as the “Queen of Disco,” and is well known for her singles’ long chart life.

Beginning in the 1980s, Donna Summer moved to Geffen Records. She released her first album for them in 1980 with, The Wanderer. The album climbed to number 13 in the US but only 55 in the UK. The album earned her two Grammy Nominations for, Best Female Rock Vocal Performance and Best Inspirational Performance.

Donna Summer released her next album in 1982 titled, Donna Summer. The album featured singles such as, “Love is Control,” and “State of Independence.” She followed that album up with, She Works Hard For the Money, which was released by Mercury Records. This album rose to number 9 on the US charts.

In 1984 Donna Summer released her next album, Cats Without Claws. This album only made it as far as number 40 on the US album charts. Three years later, in 1987 she released the mostly unsuccessful album, All Systems Go.

Donna Summer’s last album in the 1980s came in 1989 with Another Place and Time. The album charted 53 in the US and 17 in the UK.
