Dexys Midnight Runners was a band formed in 1978 in Birmingham, England. The band flowed nicely into the British New Wave scene that swept the country in the 1980s.

Dexys Midnight Runners

Dexys Midnight Runners released their first album in 1980, when they released Searching For the Young Soul Rebels. The album didn’t acieve much acclaim at the time, but later it was voted number 98 on the 100 Greatest Albums of all Time survey done by British T.V. channel 4. That year they also released a number one single, “Geno.”

In 1982 Dexys Midnight Runners released Too-Rye-Ay. This album contained their most famous hit, “Come on Eileen,” which was number one in the US and the UK, and has earned the band the title of a One-Hit Wonder.

Dexys Midnight Runners released Geno in 1983, this album was only a compilation of singles and their b-sides that came before 1983. In 1985, they released their last studio album. The album failed in part due to the frontman’s refusal to release a single.

Two Los Angeles based session musicians, David Paich and Jeff Porcaro, both renowned for their work with Boz Scaggs and Steely Dan, decided to form their own band. They soon added Steve Lukather, Steve Porcaro, David Hungate, and singer Bobby Kimball to the line up....
