Cliff Richard was born on October 14,1940 in Lucknow, India. He enjoyed strong success in the 1950s and 1960s with his backing group, the Shadows, but when he converted to Christianity his music turned toward the pop spectrum. He released nine top ten UK albums in the 1980s.

The first of Cliff Richard’s albums in the 1980s was; I’m No Hero which peaked at number four. His most successful single that year was “Carrie,” which was also a number four single. A year later, in 1981, he released Love Songs, which became a number one album. He also released another number four album that year, Wired For Sound. His most successful single that year was in November with, “Daddy’s Home.”

In 1982, Cliff Richard released Now You See Me…Now You Don’t. That year he had two moderately successful singles, “The Only Way Out,” and “Little Town.” In 1983, he released two more album, Dressed for the Occasion, and Silver. Both were number 7 albums in the UK. That year, he released the single, “She Means Nothing To Me,” with Phil Everly. He also released “True Love Ways,” and “Please Don’t Fall In Love.”

Cliff Richard released an album in 1984, The Rock Connection but it only charted at number 43. In 1986, he released a number one single, “Living Doll.” His next album came in 1987, Always Guaranteed. The album climbed to number 5. In 1987 he released two more top 5 singles, “My Pretty One,” and “Some People.”

In 1988 Cliff Richard released another number 1 album. It was Private Collection: 1979 to 1988. The album became a number one album in the UK and was followed-up by his last album of the 1980s, Stronger. In 1988 he had another number one single, “Mistletoe and Wine.” And in 1989 he released two more top fives, “The Best of Me,” and “I Just Don’t Have The Heart.”
