The first Christopher Cross album was self-titled. In 1980 he released his first single off the album, “Ride like the Wind.” The single became a number 2 hit in the United States. His next single fared even better, “Sailing,” became a number one pop chart hit. Christopher Cross released one more single 1980, “Never Be the Same,” which only went as far as number 15. His final single off the album was “Say You’ll Be Mine,” which became a number 20 pop single. In 1980, Christopher Cross won several Grammy’s for Album of the Year. The single, “Sailing,” also won three Grammy’s. One was for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist another for Record of the Year, and finally, one for Song of the Year. His next album, Another Page was released in 1983. This and his next two would only lie in the shadow of his debut success. |
