Charlene Artist Bio and LyricsThe ‘80s artist Charlene was born Charlene Marilynn D’Angelo on the 1st of June 1950 in Hollywood, California. She is best known for her 1982 pop song “I’ve Never Been To Me.” Charlene is considered a one hit wonder.
After a failed music career in the 1970s, Charlene released a single called “I Won’t Remember Ever Loving You” in the year 1980. The song was not released until the year 1982, however. That was also the year Charlene decided to re-record an earlier single, “I’ve Never Been To Me,” with a spoken bridge that details the singer’s regret over never having had any children. This bridge led to the song becoming a massive success that year. The track rose to the top of both the pop and adult contemporary charts in the United States. Charlene’s album of that year, I’ve Never Been To Me, was successful on a similar scale. The following year, Charlene released a duet with Stevie Wonder called “Used to Be,” written by the same songwriters who had penned her previous hit; the song did not do well on the charts. In fact, Charlene was never again able to attain the same level of success as her previous hit, “I’ve Never Been To Me.” She continued to record music throughout the decade, however. In the year 1983, she released another album, but it was a commercial failure. The albums of Charlene rank high in the 1991 book The Worst Rock and Roll Records of All Time by Jimmy Guterman and Owen O’Donnell. |
