Carole King’s album, Tapestry became one of the best selling albums of all time. She released the album in 1971. While she was attending college she founded a songwriting partnership with college friend Garry Goffin. During this time she wrote such songs as, “Don’t Bring Me Down,” by the Animals. She also wrote the song “Chains” which was used by the Cookies and later on used by the Beatles.

During the late 1960s Carole King failed several attempts at a successful solo career, but in 1971 she tried a new idea. She tried mixing in folk to some of her earlier pop singles. Her album "Tapestry" maintained chart positions for nearly six years and sold more than 22 million copies, 10 million of which in the US alone.

Carole King’s success in the 1980s was limited. She released three albums between 1980 and 1983, at which point she put her music career aside to become an environmental activist. She is still an active political figure for the democrat party.

Carole King released her latest album in 2005 titled, The Living Room Tour. The actual tour reflected her playing in the homes of Democratic Party member’s homes.
