Brown is married to the R&B superstar Whitney Houston. The two featured on the Bravo reality show Being Bobby Brown. In September 2006, Houston’s publicist announced that the singer was separating from her husband after fourteen years.

Brown is the descendant of slaves who were acquired by the slave trading family that started Brown University. In the year 1980, Brown began his career by singing with schoolmates Ricky Bell and Michael Bivins. The group, alongside Ralph Tresvant and Ronnie DeVoe, eventually became New Edition. After winning a few talent shows, they were discovered by the producer Maurice Starr.

Starr instantly signed New Edition to his label. He co-wrote their hit song, “Candy Girl,” which was released in the year 1983. This single helped New Edition score a deal with the MCA label. Other New Edition hits that featured Brown include “Mr. Telephone Man,” “Is This the End,” and “Cool It Now.” Brown’s debut solo album, King of Stage, was launched in 1986.

The albums of Bobby Brown include King of Stage, Don’t Be Cruel, Dance!… Ya Know It!, Bobby, B. Brown Posse, Remixes in the Key of B, and 1997’s Forever.
