Billy Joel Artist Bio and LyricsBorn William Martin Joel in the Bronx in 1949, the American ‘80s artist Billy Joel first became famous with the hit single “Piano Man” in 1973. Although he retired from the pop recording industry in the early 1990s, his music continues to have a huge impact on audiences around the world. Among his many accomplishments is being one of the sole rock artists to have Top 10 hits spanning three decades. Over 100 million of his albums have been sold all over the world. Joel has won six Grammy Awards, and is reportedly the sixth best selling recording artist of all time in America. He has been inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, the Long Island Music Hall of Fame, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. While Joel has officially retired from writing and recording pop music, he nevertheless continues to tour relentlessly. Recent years have seen Joel teaming up with Elton John for a series of tours in which the two play each other’s music and collaborate in duets. Joel has also recorded an album of classical music. Although he never finished high school, Joel has been awarded a number of honorary doctorates from such schools as Fairfield University, Berklee College of Music, Hofstra University, Southampton College, and Syracuse University. Random 80's Artist![]() Daryl Hall and John Oates -The year of their last Top 40 success was 1990. Although they no longer retain such a strong public image, they have not broken up. Hall & Oates continue to tour and record. In the course of their career, the duo has had over two dozen hit singles on the Billboard Charts. I went to an Elton John/Billy Joel concert in Cincinnati a few years ago. I liked some of Billy Joels songs, but mainly went for Elton John. When I left the concert I was a total Billy Joel Fan!!!! I left loving Billy and thought Elton was just over blown!!!!! Thanks Billy for a wonderful concert.
