Soon after their first release the girls in Bananarama would be signed to London Records. The new success would land them on the cover of London fashion magazines and attract the attention of Terry Hall, a former member of the Specials, who would later ask them to collaborate on a song with his band, Fun Boy Three.

Their appearance in “T’ain’t What You Do” would bring about Bananarama’s first mainstream recognition when it went to the UK top five. Later that year Fun Boy Three would appear in “Really Saying Something” as a guest of Bananrama’s.

During the years 1984 to 1989 Bananarama would experience a wealth of success. Their first few albums would produce the hits that would later define the band. On their debut album, Deep Sea Skiving, “Really Saying Something,” “Shy Boy” and “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye” would all break the top five in the United Kingdom.

Their follow-up album, Bananarama would attack many more social issues and produce great results. Songs like “Hot Line to Heaven” and “Robert DeNiro’s Waiting” would grapple with issues such as drug addiction and rape.
