A-Ha Artist Bio and Lyrics
After multiple re-recordings and two failed releases 80's band A-Ha's, "Take On Me" became a worldwide hit in 1985. The first release of the song had only sold 300 copies, but after a rework with producer Alan Tarney, it sold 1.5 million copies around the world in only one month.
Eventually A-Ha's single "Take On Me" sold approximately 6 million copies worldwide. Take On Me hit #1 in the US and peaked at #2 on the UK charts. Sales of A-Ha's Take On Me were bolstered in the US by the music video on MTV that mimicked the climactic scene from the Ken Russell film Altered States. The video used a sketchy animation / live action combination called Rotoscoping. A-ha received a Best Video nomination for "Take On Me" at the 1986 MTV Video Music Awards. A-ha would never again have a Billboard Top 40 single in the US after Take On Me. In the US A-ha is considered an 80's one hit wonder. In the rest of the world A-ha has had greater success beyond their first hit. A-ha's second album in 1986 was Scoundrel Days and represented a move towards alternative rock as synth pop began to fall out of style. In 1987, they provided the title song for the James Bond film The Living Daylights. A-ha's 1988 release Stay on These Roads received more mixed reviews than the previous albums. In spite of declining sales in the next few years, A-ha managed to record two more albums, 1990's East of the Sun, West of the Moon and Memorial Beach in 1993. |

The music is wonderful and the vocals are pure, sensitive and beautiful. I never cease to love listening to it.
